The only thing I'd change is that the tassel it came with wasn't detachable. I was able to cut it off, keeping the gold nub (the others had black and I thought this looked better), and use my university's old gold one to match.
I was a broke PhD student, so I had to get a little frugal with my regalia ($150 vs $400, really). I also sewed on my own gold piping by hand. Hours later, it looked great if you didn't look at the inside!
Blue was a little darker than I expected. The hat is nice, but it barely fits. It seems worth the money and is certainly better than the cardboard caps.
The tam looked well made and was indistinguishable from official academic tams at a much lower cost. Soft black velvet, good weight on the tassel, and fit perfectly on my average sized head. So glad I found this for graduation pictures during covid!

When I first received my tam, it came without a tassel. However, the item was promptly replaced, and the second one came with a tassel as advertised. It's of good quality, made of a thick velvet. I got the blue one, and it matches the velvet on my robe perfectly. Although it's adjustable, it is a bit tight on my head, but it does come with an elastic base that will most likely loosen up a bit with use. I highly recommend this one if you need to replace a tam.
